Al-Masjid al-Ḥarām (which means "The Sacred Mosque" in Arabic) is the biggest mosque in the world. It is found in the city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia. This very special mosque surrounds the Kaaba. The Kaaba is a cube-shaped building that Muslims face when they offer their daily prayers. Muslims believe Al-Masjid al-Ḥarām is the holiest place on Earth.
The mosque is also known as the Grand Mosque. It has nine tall minarets. Like Masjid al-Nabawi in Medina, this mosque has been made bigger and improved many times. The most recent large expansion happened when King Fahd was in charge. More plans for making it bigger were made by the former ruler, King Abdullah.
