Massimiliano Edgar "Massi" Rosolino (born July 11, 1978) is a famous Italian swimmer. He is now retired from competitive swimming. He was known for his amazing skills in freestyle and medley events.

About Massimiliano Rosolino

Massimiliano Rosolino was born in Naples, Italy. His father was Italian and his mother was Australian. When he was three years old, his family moved to Australia. They moved back to Italy when he was six. He started swimming at a very young age and quickly became a talented swimmer. In 2002, he returned to Australia to train with a famous coach, Ian Pope, at the Melbourne Vicentre Club.

Olympic Games Success

Massimiliano represented Italy in four Olympic Games. He competed in the Olympics starting in 1996.

At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, he made history. He won a gold medal in the 200-meter individual medley race. This made him only the second Italian swimmer ever to win an Olympic gold medal. He also won two more medals at those games:

  • A silver medal in the 400-meter freestyle race. He set a new European record for this event.
  • A bronze medal in the 200-meter freestyle race.

At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, Massimiliano won another bronze medal. This was with the Italian team in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay race.

World and European Championships

Massimiliano Rosolino is one of the most successful swimmers in Italian history. He has won a total of 60 international medals!

He became a world champion in the 200-meter individual medley at the 2001 World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan. He also won three silver medals and one bronze medal at five different World Long Course Championships.

At the World Short Course Championships, he won one gold medal, two silver medals, and seven bronze medals.

He also had great success at the European Championships:

  • He won 21 medals at the European Long Course Championships.
  • He won 20 medals at the European Short Course Championships.
  • Overall, he became a European champion 14 times (7 times in long course and 7 times in short course events).

Personal Life

In 2006, Massimiliano took part in a TV show called Ballando con le stelle (which means "Dancing with the Stars") in Italy. There, he met a Russian dance teacher named Natalia Titova. They started a relationship and now have two daughters together.
