He was part of the track team at Olney High School. He graduated in 1986 from Scotland School for Veterans' Children. This school in Scotland, Pennsylvania, was for children of military veterans.

After high school, he lived in New York. Then, he spent eight years in the Chicago, Illinois area. During this time, he worked many different jobs. He delivered products for Coca-Cola and UPS. He also drove a furniture delivery truck. He even drove a large 18-wheel truck for a concrete company. He also worked for the Union Pacific Railroad, loading and unloading cars and trucks.

In 1994, Mathew St. Patrick moved to Los Angeles, California. He wanted to start his acting career there. First, he worked as a personal trainer. In 1996, he joined a theater group called the West Coast Theater Ensemble.
