Matt Brann is a talented drummer from Canada. He was born on November 14, 1980. He is best known for playing drums with the famous singer Avril Lavigne.
Starting His Musical Journey
Matt Brann started playing drums when he was 12 years old. When he was 14, he joined a band called Second Opinion. He played with his school friends, including Jason McCaslin. Jason later became the bassist for the band Sum 41. They played music together for about five years. They performed in their hometown and near Toronto, Ontario.
Playing with Avril Lavigne
In 2002, Matt got a big chance. A friend of his, who worked with Avril Lavigne, needed a drummer for her band. Matt contacted Avril's management company, Nettwerk. They flew him to New York to meet Avril. He tried out for the drummer spot and got the job!
Matt, Avril, and guitarist Evan Taubenfeld wrote a song together. This song was called "Freak Out." It appeared on Avril Lavigne's second album, Under My Skin.
During Avril Lavigne's Bonez Tour, Matt also sang a song. He covered the Blur song "Song 2". For this song, Avril played the drums, and Matt sang the vocals. The Bonez world tour started in September 2004 and lasted 18 months. After the tour, Matt and the band took a break. Avril decided to try acting for a while. During this time, Matt worked with a band called The New Cities. He helped them with their albums.
Other Music Projects
Matt Brann has also worked on other cool music projects. He appeared in the music video for "Makes No Difference" by the band Sum 41.
Today, Matt manages a band from Toronto called Organ Thieves. This band includes Dave Baksh, who is the guitarist for Sum 41. Matt also recorded and played live drums for The Operation M.D.. This is a garage rock band that also features Jason McCaslin from Sum 41.
