Matt Moore's NFL Journey
Matt Moore has played for a few different teams in the NFL. Let's look at his career with each team.
Starting with the Dallas Cowboys
After the 2007 NFL Draft, Matt Moore signed with the Dallas Cowboys. This means he joined their team even though he wasn't drafted. However, he was released from the team on September 1st of that year. This means he left the team before the regular season really got going.
Playing for the Carolina Panthers
Matt Moore first played in a regular NFL game on October 27, 2007. This was with the Carolina Panthers. He got to play because their starting quarterback, David Carr, got injured during the game.
In 2008, Matt Moore was injured during the last game of the preseason. Because of this injury, he could not play at all during the 2008 NFL season.
During the 2009 NFL season, Moore started five games. He played very well, throwing 8 touchdowns and only 2 interceptions. A touchdown is when a player scores points by getting the ball into the end zone. An interception is when a defensive player catches a pass meant for an offensive player.
At the start of the 2010 NFL season, he was the starting quarterback again. But after throwing 4 interceptions in the first two games, another player named Jimmy Clausen took his place. Moore then sat out for three games. He became the starter again after Clausen didn't play well. In week 9 of that season, Moore got injured again, which ended his season early.
Joining the Miami Dolphins
On July 28, 2011, the Miami Dolphins signed Matt Moore. He joined the team to be a backup quarterback for Chad Henne. A backup quarterback is ready to play if the main quarterback gets hurt or isn't playing well.
On October 2, 2011, Chad Henne was injured in the first quarter of a game. Matt Moore came into the game to replace him. He completed 17 out of 26 passes for 167 passing yards. He also threw 1 interception in that game.
Moore started his first game with the Dolphins on October 19, 2011. This game was against the New York Jets. In total, he played in 13 games and started 12 of them for the Miami Dolphins that season. He finished the 2011 season with 2,497 passing yards. He also threw 16 touchdowns and 9 interceptions.
