King Herod's Secret Meeting
This part of the Bible tells us about King Herod's actions. He had just heard from the Magi that a new king was born. Herod was the ruler of Judea at the time. He was known for being powerful but also very suspicious.
Why Herod Met Secretly
Herod called the Magi to meet him in private. He did this because he wanted to get information from them without anyone else knowing. He was worried that this new king might take his place. He wanted to find out more about the star and the baby's birth.
What Herod Asked the Magi
Herod asked the Magi very carefully about the exact time the special star first appeared. This detail was important to him. He thought knowing the star's timing would help him find the new king. He wanted to know the precise moment the star was seen.
Different Bible Translations
The words of Matthew 2:7 are written slightly differently in various Bible versions. However, they all share the same main message. They explain Herod's secret meeting and his question to the Magi.
King James Version
The King James Version of the Bible is an older translation. It says:
- Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men,
- enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.
In this version, "privily" means secretly. "Enquired diligently" means he asked very carefully and thoroughly.
World English Bible
The World English Bible is a more modern translation. It says:
- Then Herod secretly called the wise men, and learned
- from them exactly what time the star appeared.
This version uses simpler words like "secretly" and "exactly." It makes the meaning clear for today's readers. Both versions show that Herod was very keen to know about the star's first appearance.
