Matthew Isaac Hatchette (born May 1, 1974) is a former American football player. He played as a wide receiver for six seasons in the NFL. A wide receiver is a player who runs routes and catches passes from the quarterback. Matt Hatchette played for teams like the Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets, and Jacksonville Jaguars. He was chosen by an NFL team in the 1997 draft.
Playing in the NFL
During his time in the NFL, Matt Hatchette caught 60 passes. These catches gained a total of 887 yards. He also scored six touchdowns, which means he carried the ball into the end zone six times. On average, he gained 14.8 yards every time he caught the ball. In playoff games, he caught six passes for 39 yards and scored two touchdowns.
In 2002, Hatchette signed with the Oakland Raiders. However, he was released before the season started. This happened because he had a serious shoulder injury.
Playing in NFL Europe
In 2003, Hatchette played for the Amsterdam Admirals. This team was part of NFL Europe, a league that helped players develop their skills. He had a very successful season with the Admirals. He was named to the All-NFL Europe Team that year. He also set new records for the league in catches, total yards, and touchdowns.
Return to the NFL
After his great season in Amsterdam, Hatchette signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2003. He played in six games for the Jaguars. In those games, he caught 15 passes for 203 yards and scored two touchdowns. He was released by the Jaguars after the 2003 season. He then decided to retire from playing professional football.
Coaching Football
After his playing career, Matt Hatchette became a football coach. He has coached at several schools.
- From 2015, he was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Pierce Junior College.
- In 2016, he coached at Orange Lutheran High School.
- In 2017, he moved to Long Beach Poly High School.
- From 2018 to 2024, he was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Loyola High School.
In February 2025, Matt Hatchette became the head football coach at Huntington Beach High School.
