Matty Lee (born on March 5, 1998) is a British diver who won a gold medal at the Olympics. He is great at both diving by himself and with a partner. Matty has won many medals in different diving events, like the 3-metre springboard and the 10-metre platform. He won gold at the 2015 European Games and the 2017 European Diving Championships. Matty also became a European junior champion twice.

At the World Championships, Matty won a silver medal in 2017. In 2019, he teamed up with Tom Daley and they won a bronze medal. They later won a gold medal together at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Matty Lee retired from diving in February 2025.

Matty Lee's Early Life

Matty Lee was born in Leeds, England, on March 5, 1998. His parents are Helen and Tim Lee. He started learning to swim, and then began diving in 2005 when he was seven years old.

Matty also tried gymnastics and aikido. But by 2007, he decided to focus only on diving. He trained at the City of Leeds Diving Club. Matty went to Carr Manor Community School and Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College.

Matty Lee's Diving Career

Matty Lee started competing in junior championships in 2012. He won a gold medal in the 3-metre springboard event at the European Junior Championships. Later that year, he finished seventh at the World Junior Championships.

In 2013, Matty won more medals at the European Junior Championships. He won gold again in the 3-metre springboard. He also got a silver medal in the 10-metre platform and a bronze in the 1-metre springboard.

Matty started competing as a senior diver in 2014. He was chosen for the 2014 Commonwealth Games. However, he had to withdraw from the diving team because of an injury.

In 2015, Matty competed at the first-ever 2015 European Games in Baku. He won a gold medal in the 10-metre platform event. He beat Nikita Shleikher from Russia to win the gold.

Matty Lee's 2017 Achievements

At the 2017 European Diving Championships in Kyiv, Matty Lee won a bronze medal. This was in the men's 10-metre platform event. He also won a gold medal with his diving partner, Lois Toulson. They competed in the mixed 10-metre platform synchronized diving.

After that, Matty and Lois won a silver medal together. This was at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships. They competed in the 10-metre mixed synchronized event.

Matty Lee's 2018 and 2019 Seasons

In 2018, Matty Lee competed at the British Diving Championships. He teamed up with Kyle Kothari for the 10-metre synchronized event. They won the gold medal with a great score. Matty also won a silver medal in the men's 10-metre platform event.

Matty and Lois Toulson won a bronze medal at the 2018 FINA Diving World Series in Beijing. They competed in the mixed platform synchronized event. At the 2018 European Aquatics Championships, they won a silver medal in the mixed 10-metre platform synchronized diving.

In October 2018, Matty Lee started diving with Tom Daley. They became partners for the men's synchronized 10-metre platform event. At the 2019 World Aquatics Championships in South Korea, Matty and Tom won a bronze medal. This was for their 10-metre synchronized diving performance.

Matty Lee's Final Years in Diving (2021-2025)

In 2021, Matty Lee and Tom Daley won a gold medal together. This was at the 2021 FINA Diving World Cup in Japan. They won in the synchronized 10-metre platform event. They also won gold in the same event at the 2020 European Aquatics Championships in Budapest.

The biggest win for Matty Lee came at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. He and Tom Daley won the gold medal in the men's synchronized 10-metre platform event. They beat the Chinese team with a score of 471.81.

Matty Lee was recognized for his achievements in diving. He was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2022.

At the 2022 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Matty partnered with Noah Williams. They won a silver medal in the synchronized 10-metre platform event.

Matty and Noah also teamed up at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. They won a gold medal in the synchronized 10-metre platform. Matty also won a bronze medal in the individual 10-metre platform event.

In March 2024, Matty Lee had surgery on his spine. This meant he could not compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Matty announced his retirement from diving in February 2025.

Matty Lee on Television

In November 2021, Matty Lee was a contestant on a TV show. It was the twenty-first series of I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!. He finished in fifth place on the show.

Matty also appeared on The Chase on August 28, 2022. He played with Sunetra Sarker, Basil Brush, and David Arnold. The team won £19,000 for their charities. Each celebrity took home £4,750.
