Matthew Lee (born 5 March 1998), known as Matty Lee, is a British diver. He is famous for winning an Olympic gold medal. Matty is skilled in both individual diving and synchronised diving. Synchronised diving means two divers perform at the same time. He competes from both the 3-metre springboard and the 10-metre platform.
Matty won a gold medal at the 2015 European Games in the 10-metre platform event. He also won gold in mixed 10-metre synchronised platform at the 2017 European Diving Championships. As a junior, he was European champion twice on the 3-metre springboard. At world events, he won a silver medal in mixed 10-metre synchronised platform at the 2017 World Championships. In 2019, Matty and his diving partner Tom Daley won a bronze medal. They won this in the 10-metre synchronised event at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships. In July 2021, they won a gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Matty Lee's Early Life
Matty Lee was born in Leeds on 5 March 1998. His parents are Helen and Tim Lee. He started swimming first. Then, in 2005, when he was seven years old, he began diving. Matty also tried gymnastics and aikido. But in 2007, he decided to focus only on diving.
He trained with the City of Leeds Diving Club. This was at the John Charles Centre for Sport. Matty went to Carr Manor Community School from 2009 to 2014. After that, he studied at Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College from 2014 to 2016.
Matty Lee's Diving Career
In 2012, Matty competed in his first European Junior Championships. He won a gold medal in the 3-metre Springboard event. Later that year, he went to the World Junior Championships. His best result there was seventh place in the Group B Platform.
In 2013, Matty won medals in all three individual events at his second European Junior Championships. He won the 3-metre title again. He also got a silver medal in the 10-metre Platform. He earned a bronze medal in the 1-metre Springboard.
In 2014, Matty started competing as an adult in the World Cup series. He was chosen to compete at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. However, he could not compete because of an injury.
In 2015, Matty competed at the very first 2015 European Games. These games were held in Baku. He won a gold medal in the 10-metre platform. He beat Nikita Shleikher from Russia.
2017 Diving Highlights
At the 2017 European Diving Championships in Kyiv, Matty won a bronze medal. This was in the men's 10-metre platform event. He also won a gold medal in the mixed 10-metre platform synchronised diving. His partner for this event was Lois Toulson.
Later, Matty and Lois won a silver medal. This was at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships. They competed in the 10-metre mixed synchronised event.
2018 and 2019 Competitions
At the 2018 British Diving Championships, Matty teamed up with Kyle Kothari. They won the 10-metre synchronised event. Their score was 406.17, which was much higher than the second-place team. Matty also came second in the men's 10-metre platform individual event.
Matty and Lois Toulson won a bronze medal in 2018. This was at the 2018 FINA Diving World Series in Beijing. They competed in the mixed platform synchronised event. At the 2018 European Aquatics Championships in Glasgow/Edinburgh, Matty and Lois won a silver medal. This was in the mixed 10-metre platform synchronised event.
In October 2018, Matty started diving with Tom Daley. They became partners for the men's synchronised 10-metre platform event.
At the 2019 World Aquatics Championships in Gwangju, South Korea, Matty and Tom won a bronze medal. This was in the 10-metre synchronised event.
2021 to 2024 Achievements
In 2021, Matty and Tom Daley won a gold medal. This was at the 2021 FINA Diving World Cup in Japan. They won in the synchronised 10-metre platform event. The pair also won gold in the same event at the European Championships in Budapest.
At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Matty and Tom Daley won a gold medal. This was in the men's synchronised 10-metre platform event. They beat the Chinese team with a total score of 471.81.
In 2022, Matty received a special award called an MBE. This award was given to him for his great achievements in diving.
At the 2022 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Matty partnered with Noah Williams. It was their first time competing together internationally. They won a silver medal in the synchronised 10-metre platform event.
Matty and Noah Williams also teamed up at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. They won a gold medal in the synchronised 10-metre platform. In individual events, Matty won a bronze medal in the 10-metre platform.
In March 2024, Matty had surgery on his back. This meant he could not compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Television Appearances
In November 2021, Matty Lee was announced as a contestant on a TV show. It was the twenty-first series of I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!. He finished in fifth place on the show.
Matty also appeared on the game show The Chase on 28 August 2022. He was on the show with Sunetra Sarker, Basil Brush, and David Arnold. The four celebrities played against Darragh Ennis for £19,000. Their team won, and each celebrity took home £4,750 for their chosen charities.
