Maurice Antonia Jones (born September 14, 1964) is a leader who has worked to help communities and create job opportunities. He has held important roles in government and non-profit organizations.
He was the former CEO of OneTen, a group of companies working to create one million jobs for African Americans. Before that, he led the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, which helps develop communities across the country. Jones also served in the U.S. government and the state government of Virginia.

Early Life and Education
Maurice Jones grew up in a rural area called Mecklenburg County, Virginia. His family lived on a tobacco farm near the town of Kenbridge.
He studied political science at Hampden–Sydney College. After college, he received a special scholarship called a Rhodes scholarship. This allowed him to study at St. John's College, Oxford in England. Later, he earned a law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law.

Helping Communities Across the U.S.
From 2016 to 2020, Jones was the president and CEO of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC). This organization is a "community development financial institution." U.S. Deputy Secretary of HUD
From 2012 to 2014, he served as the Deputy Secretary of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). HUD is a part of the U.S. government that helps people with housing and community development. He worked under President Barack Obama.
Virginia Secretary of Commerce
After his time at HUD, Jones became the Virginia Secretary of Commerce. He held this role in the cabinet of Governor Terry McAuliffe from 2014 to 2016. In this job, he helped promote business and economic growth in the state of Virginia.
Leading OneTen
After his work at LISC, Jones became the CEO of OneTen. This is a group of companies that have joined together to create one million jobs. These jobs are specifically for African Americans who do not have a four-year college degree. The goal is to help more people find good jobs by the end of the 2020s.

In November 2020, Maurice Jones was considered for the role of United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development in the new Biden administration. However, he was not chosen for that position.
