Mauricetown (pronounced "Morristown") is a small community in New Jersey, a state in the United States. It's known as a census-designated place, which means it's an area identified by the government for collecting population data. It's also an unincorporated community, meaning it doesn't have its own local government but is part of Commercial Township in Cumberland County.
Mauricetown is a very peaceful place. A modern bypass road, County Route 649, was built to reduce traffic. This makes the town quiet with very few cars. The town has a grid layout with two main roads and three smaller streets. Most of the buildings are homes.
The community sits on high ground overlooking the Maurice River. This river was very important for Mauricetown's growth in the 1800s. During that time, the town was busy with coastal trade and building ships. Mauricetown is surrounded by natural beauty. You'll find grassy salt marshes, tidal flats, and small creeks. The town is about 6 miles (9.7 km) upriver from the Delaware Bay. Many of the buildings are historic, built between 1790 and 1900. One of the oldest buildings, the Caesar Hoskins Log Cabin, is even listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The area uses United States Postal Service ZIP Code 08329. In 2020, about 403 people lived in Mauricetown.
