Mawnan (which means St Maunan in the Cornish language) is a small village and civil parish in the south of Cornwall, England. It's located near the Helford River to the south and the sea to the east. The parish is mostly countryside. In 2011, about 1,476 people lived here. The main part of the parish is called Mawnan Church. The biggest village in the area is Mawnan Smith, which is about three miles south of Falmouth.

What Does Mawnan Mean?
The name Mawnan is thought to come from a saint named Maunanus. He was likely a monk from Brittany (a region in France). It's believed he arrived in this area around the year 520 AD.

There are two Anglican churches in the parish. The older one is the 13th-century Church of St Mawnan and St Stephen. This church is located in Mawnan Church. The land for St Michael's Church was given by the Rogers family from Carwinion, and the church was finished in 1874.
Other Places of Worship
Mawnan Smith village also has a Methodist chapel. For those who are Roman Catholic, there is a church dedicated to St Edward the Confessor. This church is on Old Church Road and was completed in 1965.
Important Houses and Gardens
Mawnan is home to several notable country houses. These include Bosloe, Bosveal, Carwinion, Penwarne, Nansidwell, Heyle, and Bareppa. Glendurgan and Trebah are also famous for their beautiful 19th-century houses. These were developed by the Fox family, who were well-known in Falmouth.
