William McKinley "Max" Venable was born on June 6, 1957. He is an American former professional baseball player. Max was an outfielder and designated hitter. He played for 12 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB). His teams included the San Francisco Giants, Montreal Expos, Cincinnati Reds, and California Angels. Max also played in Japan for the Chiba Lotte Marines. Later, he coached baseball in Korea.

Max Venable's Early Life
Max Venable grew up in Rancho Cordova, California. He went to Cordova High School. Max was a talented athlete in many sports. He was especially good at football in high school. He even turned down football scholarships. Instead, he chose to sign with the Los Angeles Dodgers for baseball.
Max Venable's Baseball Career
Playing in Major League Baseball
The Los Angeles Dodgers drafted Max in 1976. However, they did not protect him. In 1978, the San Francisco Giants picked him up. This happened in a special event called the Rule 5 draft. Max played for the Giants until 1983.
In 1984, the Giants traded Max to the Montreal Expos. He later played for the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds are part of the National League. He also played for the California Angels in the American League.
Playing Baseball in Japan
After his time in MLB, Max went to Japan. He played two seasons there. From 1992 to 1993, he was with the Chiba Lotte Marines. This team is part of Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB).
Coaching After Playing
After his playing career, Max became a coach. He coached for the Atlanta Braves in their minor league teams. He also coached for the San Diego Padres. Max has worked as a hitting instructor. He taught players in the Seattle Mariners' farm system. In 2013, Max signed with the SK Wyverns. This is a Korean baseball team. He worked as their hitting coach.
Max Venable's Family Life
Max Venable married Mary “Molly” Cross in May 1982. They have two sons together. Both of his sons also became athletes.
Max's Son, Will Venable
Max's older son is named Will Venable. Will also became a Major League outfielder. He played baseball and basketball at Princeton University. In 2008, Will joined his father. They were both part of the Portland Beavers team. Will is now a manager for the Chicago White Sox.
Max's Son, Winston Venable
Max's younger son is Winston Venable. Winston played National Football League for the Chicago Bears. In college, he was a great safety. He played for the Boise State Broncos football team. He played during the 2009–10 and 2010–11 seasons.
