Maxime Crépeau's Club Soccer Journey
Maxime Crépeau started his soccer career in Canada. He joined the Montreal Impact Academy in 2010. This was a youth team that helped young players become professionals.
Playing for Montreal Impact
After three years with the U21 team, Crépeau signed a big contract. He became a "Homegrown Player" for the Montreal Impact. This means he grew up playing in their system.
In 2015, Crépeau trained with a German club, Fortuna Düsseldorf. He then returned to the Impact. He was a backup goalkeeper during the 2015 CONCACAF Champions League Finals.
Later, Crépeau was loaned to FC Montreal. This was the Impact's team in the USL. He played his first professional game on May 2, 2015. He played for FC Montreal for two seasons.
For the 2017 season, Crépeau became the second-choice goalkeeper. He made his first main team appearance in May 2017. This was during a game against Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
Loan to Ottawa Fury for More Playtime
In 2018, Crépeau wanted to play more games. So, he was loaned to the Ottawa Fury in the USL. He had a great season there.
He did not let in any goals for six games in a row. This earned him the USL Player of the Month award in May 2018. He played every game for the Fury. He felt this time helped him improve a lot.
By the end of the season, Crépeau set a new USL record. He had 15 "shutouts," meaning he kept the other team from scoring. This was the most shutouts in a single season. He was named to the USL's All-League First Team. He also won the USL Goalkeeper of the Year award.
Moving to Vancouver Whitecaps FC
On December 9, 2018, Crépeau moved to Vancouver Whitecaps FC. He started playing for them on March 2, 2019. He quickly became the main goalkeeper for the Whitecaps.
In 2020, he broke his thumb during a tournament. This made him miss many games. But in 2019 and 2021, he was named the Whitecaps' Player of the Year. By early 2022, he had played in 63 games for the Whitecaps.
Time with Los Angeles FC
On January 20, 2022, Crépeau was traded to Los Angeles FC. This was a big move for him. He said it was a very hard decision to make.
He made his first appearance for Los Angeles on February 26. He helped his team win 3–0 without letting in any goals. Crépeau played almost every game for LAFC in 2022.
During the 2022 MLS Cup final, he got a serious leg injury. This happened while he was trying to stop a goal. Even with his injury, Los Angeles FC won the game.
Crépeau returned to playing on July 23, 2023. He played for Los Angeles FC 2, a team in MLS Next Pro. He was even the team captain in his first game back.
