Maximilian, Count of Hamilton (born March 17, 1714 – died October 31, 1776) was an important leader in the church. He served as a Prince-Bishop in a place called Olomouc. Back then, Olomouc was part of the Holy Roman Empire, which was a large group of lands in central Europe. Today, Olomouc is in the Czech Republic.

His Family Background
Maximilian's family came from Scotland. His great-great-grandfather was James Hamilton, 1st Earl of Abercorn, a noble from a long time ago.
Maximilian's grandfather was also very important. He worked for the Elector of Bavaria, who was a powerful ruler. He also held titles like Landvogt and chamberlain for the Holy Roman Emperor. In 1698, his grandfather was given the special title of count in the Holy Roman Empire.
Maximilian's parents were Julius Francis Hamilton and Countess Maria Ernestina von Starhemberg.
His Life and Career
Maximilian Hamilton was born in Munich on March 17, 1714. He went to school at Ettal Abbey. Later, he studied in Rome and finished his education in 1738.
After becoming a priest in 1738, he started working in the church. In 1747, he became a canon in Olomouc. This meant he was a member of the group of priests who helped run the cathedral.
By 1751, he was in charge of St. Anne's Chapel at the Cathedral of Olomouc. In 1758, he became the vicar general. This was a high-ranking job, helping the bishop manage the church's affairs.
When the previous Prince-Bishop, Leopold Friedrich von Egkh and Hungersbach, passed away, Maximilian was chosen to take his place. He was elected by the cathedral chapter, which was the group of canons.
Maximilian Hamilton died in Kroměříž on October 31, 1776.
Founding a Village
Maximilian Hamilton is also remembered for founding a village. This village was named Hamiltony, and it is now part of the town of Vyškov.
