Early Life and Education
Starting Young
Maya Badian started composing music when she was just five years old! She later attended the Bucharest National University of Music in Bucharest. There, she studied with famous teachers like Tiberiu Olah and Aurel Stroe. In 1968, she finished her studies in composition.

In 1972, Maya Badian continued her studies in Weimar, Germany. She learned how to lead orchestras, which is called orchestral conducting.
A Career in Music
Working in Romania
Since 1970, Maya Badian has been a member of the Union of Romanian Composers and Musicologists. This is a special group for composers and music experts in Romania. From 1968 to 1972, she was the music director for the radio theater department at the Romanian Broadcasting Corporation. She also taught music at the George Enescu School of Music in Bucharest from 1973 to 1985.
Moving to Canada
In 1987, Maya Badian and her family moved to Canada and settled in Montreal. By 1990, she became a Canadian citizen. In 1995, she moved to Ottawa, Ontario.
