Joe Biden's Teenage Home in Mayfield
Mayfield holds a special place in the history of U.S. politician Joe Biden. He moved to Mayfield with his family in 1955 when he was 13 years old. They lived in a typical split-level house on Wilson Road.
In his book, Promises to Keep, Joe Biden described Mayfield. He wrote that the houses in his neighborhood had been built just a few years earlier on what used to be a flat farm field with no trees. This meant there was no shade anywhere. He remembered the streets were smooth and narrow, perfect for bike races and games like whiffle ball. He also noted that everything in Mayfield felt very organized and uniform, with houses and streets laid out in neat right angles.
