Mayoworth is a small, unincorporated community. It is located in the southwestern part of Johnson County. This area is in north-central Wyoming, United States.

Mayoworth sits in the eastern valleys of the Bighorn Mountains. It is found at the end of Wyoming Highway 191. The community is about 12 miles west of Kaycee. Mayoworth is also located on the North Fork of the Powder River. Nearby towns include Barnum to the south. Big Trails is located over the Bighorn Mountains.

History of Mayoworth

Early Events and Battles

Near Mayoworth is the Dull Knife Battlefield. This was the site of an important battle in 1876. The battle took place between the U.S. Army and the Cheyenne people. It was a significant event in the history of the American West.

The Hole-in-the-Wall Gang

From the late 1860s to around 1910, a mountain pass called Hole-in-the-Wall was used by famous figures. These included people like Butch Cassidy. Several groups of these individuals had a secret cabin nearby. They used this area as a hideout.

How Mayoworth Got Its Name

The name Mayoworth comes from two people. It is a combination of the names Mae Marie Jones and William Worthington Morgareidge. Their names were joined together to create the name for this community.
