McDonald Peak is a tall mountain in the state of Montana, U.S.. It's the highest point in the Mission Mountains and stands at about 9,820 feet (2,993 meters) high. This impressive peak is located inside the Flathead Indian Reservation. It's also special because it has the second-highest "prominence" in Montana, meaning it rises very far above the land around it. You can find the McDonald Glacier on its northern side.
Wildlife and Conservation
McDonald Peak is home to amazing wildlife, including grizzly bears! During the summer, these bears come to the top of the mountain and the areas nearby. They are there to feed on insects, which are an important part of their diet.
To keep both people and bears safe, and to help protect these animals, certain parts of the mountain are closed to hikers. This closure usually happens between July 15 and September 30 each year. It helps the bears feed peacefully and avoids any dangerous meetings between humans and wildlife.
