McIntosh (in Lakota: Maktáža) is a small city in South Dakota, United States. It is the main town, or county seat, of Corson County, South Dakota.
In 2020, about 111 people lived in McIntosh. This was a decrease from 173 people in 2010.

History of McIntosh
McIntosh got its name from two siblings who worked for the railroad. The town was officially started in 1909.
During the Cold War, McIntosh was home to a special radar station. Sadly, on April 1, 2006, the old wooden courthouse in McIntosh burned down. It was the very last wooden courthouse still being used in South Dakota.
Geography and Location
McIntosh covers a total area of about 2 square kilometers (0.77 square miles). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water.
The city is located right on US Route 12. It is also about one mile west of where US Route 12 meets South Dakota Highway 65. You can also find McIntosh about a mile west of East (McIntosh) Lake. This lake was actually created by the railroad tracks.
McIntosh Climate
McIntosh holds a record for the coldest temperature ever recorded in South Dakota. On February 17, 1936, the temperature dropped to an amazing -58°F (-50°C)!
Interestingly, in that same year, McIntosh also set its own record for the hottest temperature. It reached a scorching 114°F (46°C), a record that still stands today.
