Ewen is a community that isn't officially a city but is a recognized place. It is located where M-28, a state highway, crosses the south branch of the Ontonagon River. Ewen started as a place for logging in 1888. Logging is when people cut down trees for wood.
In 1889, Ewen got a train station called Ewen Station. This station was on the Duluth, South Shore and Atlantic Railway, which is now known as the Soo Line Railroad. The station was named after W. A. Ewen, who was in charge of money for the railroad. Ewen also got a Post Office in 1889, which was later shortened to just Ewen in 1894.
