Mead is a small place in Raleigh County, West Virginia, United States. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially part of a city or town. Instead, it's managed by the county government.
Mead is found along County Route 33. It's also located near Stonecoal Creek. You can find it about 2.7 miles (4.3 kilometers) east-northeast of a place called Rhodell.

How Mead Got Its Name
The community of Mead was named after a person called C. H. Mead. He owned a mine in the area. Many communities in West Virginia were named after important people or businesses from the past.
Mead's Post Office
Mead used to have its own post office. A post office is where people send and receive mail. This post office served the community for many years. However, it closed down on June 10, 1989. For a while, Mead was also known by another name: Vanwood.
