History of Mechanicsville
Mechanicsville was officially planned and founded in 1855 by a person named Daniel A. Comstock. The city got its name because many of its first residents were "mechanics." This term referred to skilled workers or craftspeople. In 1883, a large fire destroyed part of the main business area. However, the town worked together to rebuild.

The schools in Mechanicsville are part of the North Cedar Community School District. This school district was created on July 1, 1995. It formed when two smaller school districts, the Clarence-Lowden Community School District and the Lincoln Community School District, joined together.
