History of Mechanicsville
Mechanicsville was officially planned and founded in 1855 by a person named Daniel A. Comstock. The city got its name because many of its first residents were "mechanics." This term referred to skilled workers or craftspeople. In 1883, a large fire destroyed part of the main business area. However, the town worked together to rebuild.
