Mehrabpur (Urdu: محراب پور), (Sindhi:محرابپور), is a city in the Naushahro Feroze District in the Sindh province of Pakistan. It is an important city for the area. The city is divided into 8 smaller administrative areas called Union Councils.

Mehrabpur has a busy railway station that is on the main railway line. This line connects big cities like Karachi and Lahore. It used to have another railway line that went to Naushahro Feroze, but that line is no longer used.

Mehrabpur's Past

Mehrabpur got its name from Mir Mehrab Khan Talpur. He moved here from Khairpur with his family. Other villagers soon joined them and settled in the area. Long ago, the Indus River flowed near Mehrabpur.

A Growing City

The Mehrabpur railway station opened in 1914. Since then, the city has grown a lot. Mehrabpur has a lively market that serves many nearby areas. It is especially known for its large furniture market. This market is one of the biggest in the Sindh Province, after Karachi.

The city also has a very large market for wheat and rice. This market is called Gala Mandi. It is the biggest in Sindh and the second largest in all of Pakistan. People from Mehrabpur have also served in important roles in the government and military.

Nearby Historic Villages

One important nearby village is Behlani. It is a historic village and a Union Council. Behlani is about 1 kilometer from Halani, which is on the National Highway. Behlani has many old buildings from the 1800s. Some of these buildings still show their original design.

The Battle of Halani

A famous event in the region's history is the Battle of Halani. This battle took place in 1782. It was fought between two groups: the Talpurs and the Kalhoras. They were fighting to control the Sindh region, which is now part of Pakistan.

The Talpurs were led by Mir Fateh Ali Khan Talpur. They won the battle against Mian Abdul Nabi Kalhoro. This victory meant that Mian Abdul Nabi Kalhoro was the last ruler of the Kalhora Dynasty. After this, the Talpur dynasty ruled Sindh. Their rule lasted until the British forces defeated them in the Battle of Miami.

Train Accident

On December 19, 2007, a sad event happened near Mehrabpur. An overcrowded express train was traveling from Karachi to Lahore. At about 2:30 AM, the train went off its tracks. This happened about 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) south of Mehrabpur.

Sadly, over 49 people lost their lives, and more than 200 people were injured. Investigations suggested that the accident was caused by problems with the railway tracks.
