Mehrdad Oladi (born May 25, 1985 – died April 19, 2016) was a famous Iranian football player. He usually played as a striker, which means he was good at scoring goals.

Mehrdad played for several big teams in the Iran Pro League. These included Persepolis, Esteghlal, Naft Tehran, and Malavan. He also played for Al-Shabab in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Club Career Highlights

Early Career and Loans

Mehrdad Oladi began his football journey with Persepolis, a major team in Iran. Later, he moved to Al-Shabab in Dubai for a short time. A "loan deal" in football means a player temporarily plays for another team.

In 2006, he came back to Persepolis on a loan. He then returned to Al-Shabab in 2007.

Key Moments with Persepolis

One of his most memorable moments was scoring the winning goal in the 61st Tehran derby. This was a big match against Persepolis's rivals, Esteghlal, on November 3, 2006. Many teams from Turkey and Europe were interested in him because of his talent.

Playing for Malavan

In 2009, Oladi joined Malavan. He had two fantastic seasons there, especially with his teammate Pejman Nouri. They even reached the final of the Hazfi Cup, which is a big football tournament in Iran.

Mehrdad was the top scorer for Malavan in the 2010–11 season, scoring 15 goals. He also scored five goals in four games during the Hazfi Cup.

Returning to Persepolis and Other Clubs

After his successful time at Malavan, Mehrdad returned to Persepolis in 2011. He played as both a winger (a player who plays on the sides of the field) and a striker.

In 2012, he went back to Malavan. Then, in 2013, he signed a contract with Naft Tehran. Later that year, he joined Esteghlal for a year and a half. In 2014, he signed with Malavan again.

International Career

Mehrdad Oladi also played for Iran's national football teams.

  • He was part of the Iran national under-20 football team. He played in the 2004 AFC Youth Championship in Malaysia, where he scored 4 goals in one match against Indonesia.
  • He also played for the Iran national under-23 football team in the 2006 Asian Games.
  • With the Iran B national football team, he won a bronze medal at the 2005 Islamic Games in Saudi Arabia. He was the top scorer in that tournament, scoring 6 goals, including 4 goals in a 9-0 win against Tajikistan.

Death

Sadly, Mehrdad Oladi passed away on April 19, 2016, in Tehran, Iran. He was 30 years old and died due to heart problems.
