Meital Slominsky (Hebrew: מיטל סלונימסקי; born 16 December 1982), known by her stage name Mei Finegold (Hebrew: מיי פיינגולד), is an Israeli singer. She became famous in 2009. This happened after she finished third in Kokhav Nolad 7. This show is Israel's version of Pop Idol. Mei Finegold also represented Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014.
Early Life and Music Beginnings
Mei Finegold was born in 1982 in Rishon LeZion, Israel. She still lives there today. Her journey in music started early. She sang at school events and took singing lessons. She learned to sing classical songs.
Since she was a child, Mei performed in many shows. She sang in night clubs and bars. Later, Mei became the lead singer of a band called Disiac. This band took part in a special music project. It was a CD called Hebrew Labor. This CD featured new versions of old Israeli songs.
Kokhav Nolad Journey
Mei Finegold's talent was clear from her very first audition for Kokhav Nolad. The judges were very impressed by her. They did not give her any criticism.
During the show, Mei stuck to her rock music style. She mostly sang covers of Israeli rock songs from the mid-1980s. She was chosen as having the "performance of the week" five times. Two of these times were in a row.
Eurovision Song Contest 2014
In January 2014, it was announced that Mei Finegold was chosen. The Israeli broadcaster, IBA, picked her. She would represent Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014. This big music event was held in Copenhagen, Denmark.
On March 5, it was shared that she would sing the song "Same Heart" for Israel. Mei Finegold competed in the second semi-final of the contest. She finished in 14th place and earned 19 points. Unfortunately, she did not make it to the final round of the competition.
