Melanie Jane Hill is a talented British actress. She is well-known for her roles in many popular TV shows. These include Hazel Redfern in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet and Aveline in Bread. She also played Rita Dolan in Playing the Field.
Later, she became known as Maggie Budgen in the school drama Waterloo Road. She also appeared as Julie Travers in The Syndicate. Many people know her as Cathy Matthews from the soap opera Coronation Street. More recently, she joined the cast of Casualty as Siobhan McKenzie.

Melanie Hill's Acting Journey
Melanie Hill went to Monkwearmouth School in Sunderland. After that, she studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. This is a very famous drama school. While there, she won a special award called the Vanbrugh award.
TV Shows and Series
Melanie took over the role of Aveline in the TV comedy Bread. She appeared in the last three seasons of the show. She has also been in many other well-known TV programmes. These include The Bill, Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, and Emmerdale.
In 2009, she appeared in Holby City, a medical drama. She was part of a storyline about her character's husband passing away. She also had a role in the comedy show The Thick of It.
In 2011, Melanie starred in the comedy-drama Candy Cabs. She also appeared in the fantasy series Merlin. That same year, she played Cissie Charlton in United. This drama was about the famous 1958 Munich air disaster involving Manchester United football club.
From 2012, Melanie joined the cast of Waterloo Road. She played Maggie Budgen, a main character in the school drama. In 2013, she also appeared in the BBC Two comedy Hebburn. The next year, she was in the sitcom After Hours.
In 2015, Melanie joined the popular soap opera Coronation Street. She played Cathy Matthews, who became a friend and later a love interest for character Roy Cropper. She also starred in the third series of The Syndicate that year.
In 2023, it was announced that Melanie would join the medical drama Casualty. She started playing Siobhan Mackenzie, a new Senior Sister, in early 2024.

Melanie Hill was born in Brighton. However, she grew up in Sunderland, which is her mother's hometown.
She married actor Sean Bean in 1990. They had two daughters together, Lorna and Molly. They later divorced in 1997. Melanie is a big fan of the Sunderland A.F.C. football team. In 2017, she married writer and producer Jimmy Daly.
