About Melvin Guillard
Melvin Guillard grew up in Louisiana. He played different sports like basketball. Later, he started wrestling at Bonnabel High School. He was a very good wrestler. In his last year of high school, he became a State Champion. He also won the Class 5A MVP award. For two years, he was part of the Louisiana Junior National Team.
Guillard continued wrestling for one year in college. He attended Colby Community College in Kansas. He earned a degree in criminal law. Melvin became interested in mixed martial arts because his wrestling coach knew people in the sport. He wanted to fight professionally from a young age. By the time he was 16, he was already getting ready for professional fights.
Melvin's Mixed Martial Arts Career
Early Fights
In 2005, Guillard fought Roger Huerta. He won the fight by decision. However, the result was later changed to a "No Contest." This happened after Huerta said Guillard had used something to make himself slippery between rounds.
The Ultimate Fighter 2 Show
Melvin Guillard joined The Ultimate Fighter 2 TV series. He was eliminated after losing a fight to Josh Burkman. But he returned for the season finale. There, he defeated Marcus Davis because of a cut on Davis's face. In his next fight, Guillard lost to Josh Neer. He was caught in a triangle choke in the first round.
Fighting in the UFC
After the lightweight division was brought back, Guillard started fighting in that weight class. He won his first lightweight fight in the UFC by knockout. This was at UFC 60 in 2006. He also won his next fight at UFC 63 by knockout.
Guillard then faced Joe Stevenson and lost by submission. He also lost his next fight to Rich Clementi by submission. After this, he was released from the UFC. But he soon won a fight outside the UFC and was brought back.
He returned to the UFC at UFC 86. He knocked out Dennis Siver very quickly. This win earned him a "Knockout of the Night" bonus. He was supposed to fight Spencer Fisher later, but he got an injury during training.
Guillard won a close fight against Gleison Tibau in 2009. He then lost to Nate Diaz by submission. In 2010, he joined a new training camp. He showed better defense and patience in his next fight. He won a unanimous decision against Ronys Torres.
He continued to win, knocking out Waylon Lowe and winning a split decision against Jeremy Stephens. In 2011, he won another fight by TKO, earning another "Knockout of the Night" award. He also knocked out Shane Roller in the first round.
However, Guillard then lost two fights in a row by submission. He won his next fight against Fabrício Camões by decision. He then faced Donald Cerrone and was knocked out in the first round. This fight earned him a "Fight of the Night" bonus.
Guillard was set to fight Jamie Varner, but the fight was canceled. They fought later, and Guillard lost a close decision. In 2013, he knocked out Mac Danzig in the second round. This earned him his third "Knockout of the Night" bonus.
His fight against Ross Pearson ended in a "no contest" because of an accidental illegal knee. They were supposed to have a rematch, but Pearson got injured. Guillard then lost his fight to Michael Johnson and was released from the UFC.
World Series of Fighting
After leaving the UFC, Melvin Guillard signed with the World Series of Fighting (WSOF). He won his first fight there by TKO. He was set to challenge for the WSOF Lightweight championship. However, he missed weight for the fight, so it was not a title match. He lost that fight by a close decision. In 2015, he was released from the WSOF.
Bellator MMA
In May 2015, Melvin Guillard signed with Bellator MMA. In his first fight, he chose to face Brandon Girtz and lost by a split decision. He then lost his second fight by knockout.
In his third Bellator fight, Guillard won by knockout. However, the win was later changed to a "no contest" because of an issue with a substance. He was suspended for a period of time. After completing a program, his suspension was reduced. His last fight in Bellator was a loss by unanimous decision.
Rizin FF and Other Fights
In 2018, Guillard fought Takanori Gomi in Japan. He missed weight for this fight and lost by knockout. He later fought in some regional promotions, losing by decision and TKO.
Bare-Knuckle Boxing Career
BKB Fights

Guillard fought Jimmy Sweeney twice in 2017. He lost both fights by unanimous decision. In his fourth bare-knuckle fight, he won by TKO. He then said he wanted a title shot in the lightweight division.
Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship
After his fights in England, Guillard joined the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC). He lost his first fight there due to a hand injury. He then lost his next two fights by knockout and disqualification.
In October 2021, he fought Joe Riggs and lost by knockout. This fight caused him to have some facial injuries. In early 2020, a fight for Guillard was canceled. This was because a sports commission had serious health concerns about him fighting.
