History of Melvina

The story of Melvina began after the American Civil War. A man named Charles A. Hunt, who used to be a miller in Vernon County, sold his businesses there. He then bought 300 acres of land in Monroe County. This land included the spot where Melvina is today.

Charles built a mill on his new land and encouraged other families to come and live there. He decided to name the new settlement "Melvina" to honor his wife, Amanda Melvina Hunt, who had recently passed away.
