Melyssa Savannah Ford was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on November 7, 1976. Her family background is diverse. Her father's family comes from Barbados, and her mother's family has roots in Norway and Russia.

Melyssa went to York University. There, she studied forensic psychology. This field combines psychology with the legal system.
