About Menora
Where the Name Comes From
Menora got its name in 1954. It was named after an old theatre that used to be in the area. The name also has special meaning for the local Jewish community. The Menorah is a very important lamp in Jewish tradition. If you look at some of Menora's roads from above, they even look like the shape of a Menorah!
A Special Community
Menora is home to a large Jewish community. About 8.1% of the people living there are Jewish. The main place for the community is the Perth Hebrew Congregation. You can also find the Carmel Jewish School nearby. There are also places that sell Kosher food, like the Kosher Food Centre and the Kosher Besh Fresh cafe.
Who Lives in Menora?
In 2016, a study showed some interesting facts about Menora's population. The average age of people in Menora was 53 years old. This is older than the average age for all of Australia, which was 38.
About 13.8% of the people were children aged 0 to 14. Also, a large number, 37.6%, were over 65 years old. This is because Menora has many retirement villages. These are special places where older people live.
