Mercy Maston's Football Journey
Mercy Maston started his professional football career in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He joined the Edmonton Eskimos in 2017. Unfortunately, he faced an Achilles injury early on, which limited his playing time.
Moving to New Teams
After two years with the Eskimos, Mercy left the team in January 2019. He then signed a contract with the Philadelphia Eagles in the National Football League (NFL). However, he was released from the Eagles before he could play in an NFL game.
Joining the Blue Bombers
In August 2019, Mercy Maston joined the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the CFL. The Blue Bombers needed help in their defense, and Mercy was a great fit. He quickly became an important part of the team.
Winning the Grey Cup
Mercy Maston helped the Blue Bombers have an amazing season. They made it all the way to the 107th Grey Cup championship game. In that game, they played against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and won with a score of 33–12! This was a huge victory for Mercy and his team.
Challenges with Injuries
After winning the Grey Cup, Mercy signed a new contract with the Blue Bombers. However, the 2019 season turned out to be the last time he played in a regular season game. He faced repeated injuries that kept him off the field.
Impact of the Pandemic
The 2020 CFL season was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Mercy chose to take a break from his contract with the Blue Bombers during this time. He signed another one-year contract with the team in January 2021.
More Injuries and Retirement
Even after signing new contracts, Mercy continued to struggle with injuries. In 2021, he tore his Achilles tendon again during training camp. This meant he missed the entire 2021 CFL season. He signed another extension for the 2022 season, but once again, he got injured in camp and missed the whole regular season.
Mercy Maston became a free agent on February 14, 2023. This marked the end of his professional football career. Despite the challenges, he was a two-time Grey Cup champion with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
