Merrimac is a small village located in Sauk County, Wisconsin, USA. It is found northwest of the city of Madison. In 2010, about 420 people called Merrimac home. This village is part of the larger area known as the Town of Merrimac.
One of the most interesting things about Merrimac is the Merrimac Ferry. This ferry is free to use and crosses the Wisconsin River. The state of Wisconsin operates it, making it a unique way to travel.

The name Merrimac comes from the Merrimack River in New England. A post office was first opened in Merrimac in 1855. This means people have been living and sending mail here for a very long time! The village officially became a village on October 23, 1899.
