Mescal is a small community in Cochise County, Arizona, in the United States. It is known as a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means it's an area that the government identifies for gathering population information, but it's not an officially incorporated city or town. In 2020, about 1,751 people lived in Mescal.

History of Mescal

Mescal first began as a stop along the Southern Pacific Railroad. This was at an elevation of about 4,085 feet above sea level. The community you see today is located south of the railroad, close to Interstate 10. Its current elevation is about 4,170 feet. Mescal even had its own post office for a while, from 1913 until 1931.
