Mesquite is a former town in Borden County, Texas, United States. It is now known as a ghost town. A ghost town is a place where most people have left, leaving behind empty buildings.
Mesquite started as a small farming community. It was founded in 1905. A school was built there in 1905 to teach the local children. This school served the area until 1952. After that, the school building was left empty.
Today, not much is left of Mesquite. You can still find a Church of Christ building. There are also a few scattered houses. The old, abandoned schoolhouse is still standing. Most of the land where the town once was is now used for private farms.
Where is Mesquite Located?
Mesquite is in Borden County, Texas. It sits on Farm to Market Road 1054. This road is east of US Route 87. It is also north of US Route 180.
The closest big town is Lamesa. Lamesa is about 15 miles (24 km) southwest of Mesquite. Mesquite is also about 16 miles (26 km) northwest of Gail. It is 55 miles (89 km) north of Big Spring. The town is just 7 miles (11 km) south of the Lynn County border.
