History of Metz, Missouri
Metz has a long history, with its first post office opening in 1870. A post office is where people send and receive mail. The village was not always in its current spot. It was moved in the 1800s. This happened because a new railroad was built that did not pass through the original town site.
The village was named after a city in France called Metz. This name honors the Siege of Metz (1870), a famous battle that happened in 1870. Before it was called Metz, the village had another name: "Pleasant Valley."

Metz is found in the northwest part of Vernon County. It is about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) north of the Little Osage River. This river is a natural feature in the area.
The village is located where two Missouri roads meet: Route MM and Route WW. The city of Nevada is about eleven miles (18 km) to the southeast. According to the United States Census Bureau, Metz covers a total area of 0.13 square miles (0.33 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
