Michael Belmore's Art Journey

Michael Belmore finished his art studies at the Ontario College of Art and Design in 1994. He later earned a higher degree in Fine Arts from the University of Ottawa in 2019. He is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, which is a group of very skilled Canadian artists.

His sculptures are featured in many important art collections. These include the National Gallery of Canada, the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, and the National Museum of the American Indian in the United States.

Michael Belmore has held more than ten solo art shows, where only his work was displayed. He has also been part of over fifteen group shows with other artists. In 2023, Michael Belmore was asked to create a special sculpture for the Gordie Howe International Bridge. This bridge connects Canada and the United States. The sculpture is about 2.7 meters (9 feet) tall. It was made to honor and celebrate the First Nations people. The sculpture looks like tree bark and was put in place in October 2024. Drivers can see it as they enter or leave Canada.
