Michael H. Moskow (born January 7, 1938) is an important American leader. He has worked in government, business, and education. He is currently a special expert on the global economy.
From 1994 to 2007, Mr. Moskow was the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. This bank is part of the Federal Reserve System. The Federal Reserve is like the central bank of the United States. It helps keep the economy stable.
As president, he was part of the Federal Open Market Committee. This group makes big decisions about money for the whole country. They decide things like interest rates. Mr. Moskow has been approved by the U.S. Senate for five different jobs in the government.

Early Career and Government Roles
Michael Moskow started his career as a teacher. He taught about economics, how workers and bosses get along, and how to manage businesses. He taught at Temple University, Lafayette College, and Drexel University.
From 1969 to 1977, he held many important jobs in the U.S. government. He was a top leader at the U.S. Department of Labor. This department helps workers and ensures fair workplaces.
He also directed the Council on Wage and Price Stability. This group worked to keep prices and wages from rising too fast. He also helped with housing and urban development. He was a senior economist, giving advice on the economy.
Leadership in Business and Public Service
In 1977, Mr. Moskow began working in the business world. He held senior leadership roles at several large companies. These included Esmark, Northwest Industries, Dart & Kraft, and Premark International.
In 1991, President George H. W. Bush chose Mr. Moskow for a special role. He became the Deputy U.S. Trade Representative. This job had the same rank as an Ambassador.
In this role, he was in charge of trade talks with countries like Japan, China, and those in Southeast Asia. He also oversaw important industries such as steel and aircraft.
In 1993, Mr. Moskow went back to teaching. He joined the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He taught about business strategies and international management. Soon after, he became president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.
Community and Nonprofit Work
Mr. Moskow is very involved in many community groups. He helps lead the Japan America Society of Chicago. He used to be the chairman of the Economic Club of Chicago. He also helps World Business Chicago.
He is a board member and former chairman of the National Bureau of Economic Research. This group studies the economy. He is also a member of the Commercial Club of Chicago. This club brings together business and civic leaders.
Mr. Moskow is also a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration. He is an emeritus trustee of Lafayette College, where he once studied.
Serving on Company Boards
After leaving the Federal Reserve, Mr. Moskow joined several company boards. Being on a board means he helps guide the company. He joined the boards of Discover Financial Services and Commonwealth Edison.
He also served on the boards of the National Futures Association and Northern Funds. He was on the boards of Taylor Capital Group and Diamond Management & Technology Consultants. He also advises other financial groups.
Family and Education
Michael Moskow was born in Paterson, New Jersey. He studied economics at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania. He was part of the Pi Lambda Phi fraternity there.
He earned his Ph.D. in business and applied economics from the University of Pennsylvania. He has also received special honorary doctoral degrees from several universities. These include DePaul University, Dominican University, Lafayette College, and Lewis University.
Mr. Moskow is married to Suzanne Kopp-Moskow. He has three children from an earlier marriage and seven grandchildren.
