Michael Thomas Mauldin, born on October 30, 1953, is an American expert in the music and media world. He has worked as a talent manager, event promoter, and record executive. He used to be a top leader at Columbia Records, a big music company. He is also the father of Jermaine Dupri, who started the famous So So Def Recordings label.
In 2019, Michael Mauldin started his own company, Mauldin Brand AC/VC. A year before that, in 2018, he helped create the Black American Music Association. This group helps people in the Black American music industry. He is also in charge of 2475 AtVille Entertainment. Plus, he owns Air Control Music publishing. In 2013, he launched Scream Nation, a concert tour known as the "Scream Tour." He worked with Live Nation to make this tour happen.
In 1993, Mauldin helped his son, Jermaine Dupri, start his music label. Jermaine was only 19 at the time. Michael Mauldin played a big part in helping Dupri and his artists become famous worldwide. He also worked as an executive producer for many albums. This means he helped guide the creation of the music. Some of these albums include JE Heartbreak II by Jagged Edge. Michael Mauldin was born and grew up in Murphy, North Carolina. When he was 20 years old, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia.
Music Career Highlights
Michael Mauldin started his career in 1976. He worked as a roadie for the band "Brick." This band played disco, jazz, and funk music. Later, he became very successful at managing tours and producing shows. He worked with many famous music groups and artists. These included Cameo, The S.O.S. Band, and Sister Sledge. He also worked with Earth, Wind & Fire and Luther Vandross.
As the President of Columbia Records, Mauldin helped guide the early careers of some huge stars. He helped "Destiny's Child" become famous. He also helped "Alicia Keys" at the start of her career. Mauldin was in charge of many albums that sold millions of copies. These albums were from artists like Maxwell, Fugees, Lauryn Hill, and Wyclef Jean. He also oversaw albums by Nas. He helped with the soundtracks for movies like Men In Black and Love Jones.
