Sir Michael Ogio (7 July 1942 – 18 February 2017) was an important politician from Papua New Guinea. He was the leader of the People's Democratic Movement political party. Sir Michael Ogio held the high position of the ninth Governor-General of Papua New Guinea.

Life and Political Career
Michael Ogio was born on 7 July 1942. He became the acting Governor-General on 20 December 2010. This happened after the previous Governor-General, Jeffrey Nape, resigned.
Becoming Governor-General
On 14 January 2011, Michael Ogio was officially elected as the Governor-General. He won the election against Pato Kakeraya with many votes. He took his oath and officially started his role on 25 February 2011.
Royal Recognition
On 26 April 2011, Queen Elizabeth II gave Sir Michael Ogio a special honor. She made him a Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George. This important ceremony took place at Windsor Castle in England. This title showed his high rank as Governor-General.
A Challenging Time
In December 2011, there was a difficult political situation in Papua New Guinea. During this time, Sir Michael Ogio was temporarily suspended from his role. This was part of a bigger political issue known as the 2011–12 Papua New Guinean constitutional crisis.
Later Life and Passing
Sir Michael Ogio passed away on 18 February 2017. He was 74 years old. He died in Port Moresby, the capital city of Papua New Guinea.
