Michael Proctor (July 14, 1967 – c. February 2026), known by his nickname "The General", was an American professional football quarterback. He played in several exciting football leagues, including the Arena Football League (AFL), the World League of American Football (WLAF), and the Canadian Football League (CFL). Before turning professional, he was a star player for the Murray State Racers in college. Michael Proctor was born on July 14, 1967, and passed away in February 2026.

Growing Up: Michael Proctor's Early Years
Michael Proctor was born on July 14, 1967, in Sylvester, Georgia. He grew up in Sylvester and attended Worth County High School there.
College Football Star: The Murray State Racers
Michael Proctor was a key player for the Murray State Racers football team. He started as quarterback for four years, from 1986 to 1989. During his time, he was recognized as an All-Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) player in both 1988 and 1989. In 1989, he was even named the OVC Offensive Player of the Year!
Proctor set amazing school records at Murray State. He passed for 8,632 yards, which was a record for the school. He also set records for career yards in both Murray State and the OVC, with a total of 9,886 yards. He studied safety engineering and health and graduated in 1990.
His achievements were so great that he was inducted into the Murray State University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000. The football program also retired his number 11 jersey, a huge honor! It was during his college days that he earned his famous nickname, "The General."
Playing Pro: Michael Proctor's Journey in Football
After college, Michael Proctor began his professional football career. He signed with the New England Patriots in May 1990, even though he wasn't chosen in the main NFL draft that year. He was with the team for a short time before being released in August 1990.
World League of American Football (WLAF)
Proctor then became the starting quarterback for the Montreal Machine in the World League of American Football. He played for them in 1991 and 1992. In 1991, he completed many passes for 1,222 yards and scored three touchdowns. He also ran the ball for 247 yards and two touchdowns. The Machine finished that season with four wins and six losses.
Briefly in June 1991, Proctor signed with the Cleveland Browns of the NFL. However, he was released by them in August of the same year. He returned to the Montreal Machine for the 1992 season. That year, he had an even better performance, throwing for 1,478 yards and eight touchdowns. He also rushed for 207 yards and four touchdowns.
Canadian Football League (CFL)
In April 1993, Michael Proctor joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Canadian Football League. He was part of the team for the 1993 season. He was on the roster for three games, but he did not play in any of them. He also spent some time on the team's practice squad.
Arena Football League (AFL)
Proctor found a significant role in the Arena Football League (AFL) with the Charlotte Rage. In 1994, he played in all 12 games. He completed 76 passes for 1,089 yards and threw 17 touchdowns. He also scored two rushing touchdowns. He shared playing time with another quarterback, Tony Kimbrough, and the Rage ended the season with five wins and seven losses.
He continued with the Charlotte Rage in 1995, appearing in eight games. He passed for 1,539 yards and 18 touchdowns, adding three rushing touchdowns. Again, he shared quarterback duties, this time with Andy Kelly. The team had another 5–7 season. In his final season with the Rage in 1996, Proctor played in nine games. He threw for 864 yards and 16 touchdowns, plus three rushing touchdowns.
