Michel Patrick Boisvert is a Haitian government worker and politician. He served as the temporary leader, or acting Prime Minister of Haiti, from February 25, 2024, to June 3, 2024. A new group of leaders, called the Transitional Presidential Council, took over and chose a new Prime Minister.

Before becoming acting Prime Minister, Boisvert was the Minister of Economy and Finance for Haiti. He held this important job since 2020. He worked under different Prime Ministers, including Joseph Jouthe, Claude Joseph, and Ariel Henry.

Who is Michel Patrick Boisvert?

Michel Patrick Boisvert is known for his long career in Haiti's government. He has worked in important roles related to the country's money and economy. His experience helped him step in as acting Prime Minister during a challenging time for Haiti.

Early Life and Education

Boisvert was born in a place called Petit-Goâve in Haiti. He studied at several universities to prepare for his career.

  • He earned a degree in accounting from the University of Port-au-Prince.
  • He also got an economics degree from the State University of Haiti.
  • Later, he completed a master's degree in economic policy from the University of Auvergne in France.

Working for Haiti's Government

Boisvert started his career at the Bank of the Republic of Haiti in the early 1990s. From 1995 to 2010, he worked as a government official in his hometown, Petit-Goâve. He was part of the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

From 2010 to 2018, Boisvert was in charge of checking taxes for the ministry. In 2018, he became a top leader, or director-general, at the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

In March 2020, he became the official Minister of Economy and Finance. This meant he was in charge of Haiti's money and how it was managed. He kept this job even after President Jovenel Moïse was sadly killed in 2021.

Becoming Acting Prime Minister

In February 2024, the Prime Minister at the time, Ariel Henry, traveled to Kenya. While he was away, problems in Haiti became much worse. There was a lot of violence, and Boisvert stepped in as the acting Prime Minister. He made sure the government kept working.

Because of the difficult situation, Boisvert declared a special state of emergency in March 2024. This was to help manage the crisis. He extended it for another month as the problems continued.

Prime Minister Henry later officially stepped down from his role. A new group of leaders, the Transitional Presidential Council, took over. They officially named Boisvert as the interim Prime Minister on April 24, 2024. He continued to lead the government temporarily.

In late May 2024, the council decided to extend Boisvert's time as acting Prime Minister for another month. They then chose Garry Conille to be the new Prime Minister. Conille officially took office on June 3, 2024.
