Michel Patrick Boisvert is a Haitian politician and civil servant. He was the acting Prime Minister of Haiti for a short time, from February 25 to June 3, 2024. Before this, he served as the Minister of Economy and Finance starting in 2020. He worked under different prime ministers, including Joseph Jouthe, Claude Joseph, and Ariel Henry. Boisvert also held the important role of director-general for the Ministry of Economy and Finance from 2018 to 2020.

Boisvert's Early Life and Education

Michel Patrick Boisvert was born in a town called Petit-Goâve in Haiti. He studied at several universities to prepare for his career. He earned a degree in accounting from the University of Port-au-Prince. He also got an economics degree from the State University of Haiti. Later, he traveled to France and earned a master's degree in economic policy management from the University of Auvergne.

After his studies, Boisvert started working at the Bank of the Republic of Haiti from 1991 to 1995. He then became a regional official for the Ministry of Economy and Finance in his hometown of Petit-Goâve, where he worked from 1995 to 2010. From 2010 to 2018, he worked within the ministry as the Director of Tax Inspection. This role involved checking how taxes were handled.

His Role in Government

In 2018, Michel Patrick Boisvert was chosen to be the director-general of the Ministry of Economy and Finance. This was a very important job. On March 5, 2020, he became the Minister of Economy and Finance. He kept this position even when new prime ministers took office, including Joseph Jouthe, Claude Joseph, and Ariel Henry.

Serving as Acting Prime Minister

In early 2024, Haiti faced a difficult situation. The Prime Minister, Ariel Henry, had to travel to Kenya. While he was away, Michel Patrick Boisvert stepped in as the acting leader of the government. During this time, the country experienced increased challenges. Boisvert declared a state of emergency on March 3 to help manage the situation. He extended this emergency for another month on March 7.

Prime Minister Henry later resigned. On April 24, 2024, Boisvert continued to serve as the acting prime minister. A new group called the Transitional Presidential Council was formed to help lead the country. This council had the power to choose a new prime minister. In late May 2024, the council extended Boisvert's time as acting prime minister for a month. They then chose Garry Conille to take over the role. Conille officially became the new prime minister on June 3, 2024.
