Garry Conille (born 26 February 1966) is a Haitian politician, doctor, and author who has served as the prime minister of Haiti twice. The prime minister is the head of the government in Haiti.
Conille's first term as prime minister was from 2011 to 2012. He returned to the role in June 2024 during a difficult time for the country. A special group called the Transitional Presidential Council chose him to help bring back peace and order from powerful gangs.
His second term ended in November 2024 when the council replaced him with Alix Didier Fils-Aimé. However, Conille continues to serve in Haiti's government.

Early Life and Education
Garry Conille was born into a family with four brothers. His father, Dr. Serge Conille, was also involved in government as a minister. Conille is married to Betty Rousseau and they have twin daughters.
He studied medicine at the University of Haiti. He later earned a master's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the United States as a Fulbright Scholar.
Career in Medicine and Development
Before entering politics, Conille worked to improve healthcare in Haiti. From 1994 to 1998, he helped create a healthcare system for poor communities. He also worked with other organizations to provide care to thousands of people in the Artibonite region of Haiti.
Between 2000 and 2002, he hosted a radio show that discussed health topics with people across the country.
Work with the United Nations
Garry Conille started working for the United Nations (UN) in 1999. The UN is an international organization that works on world peace and helping countries develop. He held several roles, often focusing on health issues in Africa.
In 2006, he worked on the UN's Millennium Development Goals, which were goals to fight poverty and improve life around the world. He later helped many countries create plans to reach these goals faster.
After the devastating 2010 Haiti earthquake, the UN asked Conille to help lead the recovery efforts. He worked with the Haitian government and other countries to create a plan for rebuilding Haiti. He also helped coordinate aid for people affected by the earthquake.
First Term as Prime Minister (2011-2012)
In September 2011, President Michel Martelly chose Conille to be prime minister. His selection was approved by Haiti's government, and he officially took office in October 2011.
However, his time as prime minister was short. He resigned in February 2012 after disagreements with President Martelly and other government ministers. One major issue was a debate over whether some officials had dual citizenship, which is not allowed for high-level leaders under Haiti's constitution. After he resigned, Laurent Lamothe became the next prime minister.
Second Term as Prime Minister (2024)
In May 2024, Haiti was facing a major crisis with widespread gang violence. The Transitional Presidential Council was created to lead the country. The council chose Conille to return as prime minister to help restore order. He was sworn in on June 3, 2024.
A few days after taking office, he was briefly hospitalized for what was reported as an asthma-related issue but was released the next day.
Efforts to Improve Security
As prime minister, Conille focused on making Haiti safer. His government brought back a former police chief, Rameau Normil, to lead the Haitian National Police against the gangs.
In June 2024, the first group of an international police force, called the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti, arrived to help local police. Conille also traveled to the United States to ask for more help for Haiti. After a major gang attack in October 2024, he traveled to other countries to seek more security assistance.
Dismissal from Office
On November 10, 2024, the transitional council announced that it had replaced Conille with a new prime minister, Alix Didier Fils-Aimé.
Conille stated that his removal was "illegal." According to Haiti's constitution, only the parliament can dismiss a prime minister. At the time, Haiti did not have a functioning parliament, which made the council's decision controversial.
