A Look Back in Time
Michie started as a community in the 1800s. It was first called "Monterey." When the people wanted a post office, they found that another town in Tennessee was already named Monterey. So, they chose the name "Michie" instead. This name honored a well-known local family. The town officially became a town in 1961.
Where Michie Is Located
Michie is found at coordinates 35.054533 degrees North and 88.431452 degrees West. The town is mainly located around where two state roads meet. These are State Route 22 and State Route 224. This spot is just north of the border between Tennessee and Mississippi.
Another road, State Route 57, goes through the northern part of Michie. This road connects the town to Pickwick Lake in the east. Also, Shiloh National Military Park is nearby. This park is famous for the Battle of Shiloh, which happened during the Civil War. It is located along TN 22 to the north.
The United States Census Bureau says that Michie covers about 5.6 square miles (14.56 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
