Pickwick Lake is a large lake in the United States. It touches three states: Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. This lake was created by the Pickwick Landing Dam. The dam is part of a big project called the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). The TVA helps manage rivers and create electricity.

About Pickwick Lake

Pickwick Lake is a type of lake called a reservoir. A reservoir is like a very large, artificial lake. It is built to store water for different uses. This lake was formed when the Pickwick Landing Dam was built. The dam helps control the Tennessee River. The lake stretches from Pickwick Landing Dam all the way to Wilson Dam.

Fun Things to Do

Pickwick Lake is a great place for fishing. Many people enjoy catching fish here. You can find large smallmouth bass and catfish. One popular fishing spot is near the Wilson Dam. Another good place is the discharge basin at the Colbert Fossil Plant. Warm water from the power plant attracts fish, especially when it's cold outside.

The lake is also home to two state parks. These parks are perfect for outdoor fun. In Tennessee, you can visit Pickwick Landing State Park. In Mississippi, there is J. P. Coleman State Park. These parks offer places to camp, hike, and enjoy nature.

Waterways and Nature

Pickwick Lake is an important part of a larger water route. It is the northern end of the Tennessee–Tombigbee Waterway. This waterway helps boats travel to the Gulf of Mexico. It is a key route for moving goods by water.

Yellow Creek Cove is a special spot on the lake. It has a beautiful waterfall. Many boaters like to visit this area. For a long time, there has been a rope swing at the top of the waterfall. It is a popular place for adventure.
