Michael Charles Brantley Sr. (born June 17, 1961), known as Mickey Brantley, is a former American baseball player. He played as an outfielder in Major League Baseball (MLB). Later, he became a hitting coach for teams like the Toronto Blue Jays.

Mickey Brantley's Early Life
Mickey Brantley grew up in Catskill, New York. He was one of eleven children in his family. Mickey attended Catskill High School.
After high school, he went to Columbia-Greene Community College. There, he was a star in soccer, basketball, and baseball. He even set several school records!
Later, he played at Coastal Carolina University. In 1983, the Seattle Mariners picked him in the second round of the baseball draft. After playing well in the minor leagues for over three years, he joined the Seattle Mariners in 1986.
Playing Career Highlights
Mickey Brantley played as an outfielder and designated hitter for the Seattle Mariners. He played for parts of four seasons, from 1986 to 1989.
Rookie Season Success
In his rookie year, 1987, Mickey was a strong hitter for the Mariners. He had a .302 batting average, which was the best among the regular players. That year, he also hit 14 home runs and had 54 RBI in 106 games.
Full Season as a Regular Player
His only full season as a regular player was in 1988. He played in 149 games, hitting .263 with 15 home runs and 56 RBI. After 1989, he spent a few years playing for different teams in the minor leagues. He finished his playing career in Japan with the Yomiuri Giants in 1993.
Coaching and Managing Roles
After his playing days, Mickey Brantley became a coach and manager. From 1994 to 2004, he worked in the minor leagues. He coached for teams connected to the San Francisco Giants and New York Mets.
Coaching in Major League Baseball
Before the 2005 season, Mickey joined the Toronto Blue Jays as their first base coach. A few weeks into the season, he became the team's hitting coach. He stayed in this role until near the end of the 2007 season.
Mickey Brantley's Family Life
Mickey Brantley has a son named Michael Brantley. Michael also became a professional baseball player and played as an outfielder for the Houston Astros. He even played in the 2019 and 2021 World Series.
Mickey's nephew, Justin Brantley, was a pitcher. He played in the minor leagues for a few years. Interestingly, in the early 1980s, the famous boxer Mike Tyson lived with Mickey and his family for a time.
