The Microkayla iatamasi is a small frog that belongs to the Strabomantidae family. This special frog lives only in Bolivia. It is found in a specific area near the Carrasco National Park in the Cochabamba Department.
Scientists first found this frog at heights between 2,600 and 4,192 meters (about 8,500 to 13,750 feet) above sea level. This means it lives very high up in the mountains!
About the Microkayla iatamasi
This frog is known for living in certain types of forests. Its favorite places are cloud forests, which are very misty and wet. It also lives in elfin forests, which have small, twisted trees. Another home for this frog is the humid páramo, a type of grassland found in high mountains.
Where it Lives
The Microkayla iatamasi frog is found only in a small part of Bolivia. When an animal or plant lives in just one specific area, it is called endemic. This frog is endemic to Bolivia.
Even though its home is small, there are many of these frogs in that area. However, because they live in such a small space, they can be easily affected by big changes.
Threats to the Frog
One big concern for the Microkayla iatamasi is climate change. Changes in the weather and environment can harm their mountain homes. Scientists are watching to make sure these frogs stay safe.
