History of Middletown
Middletown was officially planned and laid out in 1829. The town got its name because it is located about halfway between two other towns, New Castle and Anderson.
A post office was opened in Middletown in 1830. The town officially became an incorporated town in 1840. This means it gained its own local government.
Two important places in Middletown are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These are the John W. Hedrick House and the Middletown Commercial Historic District. Being on this list means they are special places that are important to history.
