Miguel Alfredo González Puebla (born September 23, 1983 – died November 23, 2017) was a baseball player from Cuba. He was a pitcher, which means he threw the ball to the batter. He played for teams in Cuba and later for the Philadelphia Phillies in Major League Baseball (MLB) in the United States.
Miguel González's Baseball Journey
Playing in Cuba
Miguel González started his baseball career in Cuba. He pitched for a team called La Habana in the Cuban National Series. This was from 2007 to 2009.
He also played for the Cuba national baseball team. He represented his country in big international games. These included the 2009 World Port Tournament and the 2009 and 2011 Baseball World Cups.
In 2012, while playing for the Artemisa team, he left Cuba to pursue his dream of playing baseball in other countries. He first went to El Salvador in 2013, and then moved to Mexico.
Playing in America
After leaving Cuba, Miguel González played for the Toros de Tijuana in Mexico. This was a chance for him to show his skills to baseball scouts from the United States. Teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, and Chicago Cubs watched him play.
On August 30, 2013, the Philadelphia Phillies signed González to a contract. He joined the team for three years.
When the 2014 season began, Miguel was on the disabled list because of a shoulder injury. He worked hard to get better. He played in some minor league games to get back into shape. He did well, getting many Strikeouts.
In September 2014, he was ready to play in the major leagues. He joined the Philadelphia Phillies. He pitched in a few games that season.
In 2015, he had a tough spring training. The Phillies decided to send him to their minor league teams. He was released by the Phillies on April 1, 2016.
His Passing
Sadly, Miguel González died in a car accident. This happened in Havana, Cuba, on November 23, 2017.
