Miguel Herrero y Rodríguez de Miñón (born 18 June 1940) is a Spanish lawyer and politician. He was a member of different political parties, including the Union of the Democratic Centre, People's Alliance, and the People's Party. He is famous for being one of the "Fathers of the Constitution". This means he was one of the seven people who helped write the important Spanish Constitution that was approved in 1978.

Miguel Herrero's Early Life and Education

Miguel Herrero was born on June 18, 1940. His father, Miguel Herrero García, was a high school teacher. Miguel Herrero de Miñón studied law in Madrid. He worked very hard and finished his first degree in 1961.

He continued his studies and earned his doctorate degree in 1965. His special project was about how constitutional law developed after countries became independent from colonial rule. He also studied in other famous cities like Oxford in England, Paris in France, and Louvain in Belgium. In Louvain, he earned a degree in Philosophy in 1968.

In 1966, he became a lawyer for the Council of State, which is a special legal body in Spain. He also started writing for newspapers like Diario Ya and Diario Madrid. Through his writing, he shared his ideas about how Spain should change after the death of Francisco Franco.

In 1975, Miguel Herrero married Cristina Jáuregui Segurola. They were married until she passed away in 2015.

Miguel Herrero's Political Career

Miguel Herrero de Miñón played a very important role in Spanish politics. He worked as the Technical Secretary General for the Ministry of Justice. In this role, he helped create the first amnesty law in 1976. An amnesty law allows people who committed certain political crimes to be forgiven. He also helped with the Law for Political Reform and the first rules for elections in Spain's new democracy.

One of his biggest achievements was helping to write the 1978 Spanish Constitution. This document is the most important law in Spain. He also served as a spokesperson in the Congress of Deputies, which is like the Spanish parliament. He was a deputy for the UCD party from 1977 to 1981.

In February 1982, he left the UCD party. In July of the same year, he joined a new party called Alianza Popular. He was elected as a deputy for this party and its later version, the PP, in the elections of 1982, 1986, and 1989.

In 1979, he was also elected as a city council member for Madrid. In 1987, he tried to become the leader of the Alianza Popular party, but he did not win.
