Michael Devereaux, born on April 10, 1963, is a former professional baseball player from the United States. He played as an outfielder in Major League Baseball (MLB). Mike was chosen by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 1985 amateur draft. He played his first MLB game on September 2, 1987. During his career, he played for several teams. These included the Dodgers, the Baltimore Orioles (twice), the Chicago White Sox, the Atlanta Braves, and the Texas Rangers.

Mike's Early Life

Mike Devereaux was born in Casper, Wyoming. He attended Kelly Walsh High School in Casper. After high school, he played college baseball. He played at Mesa Community College and then at Arizona State University. At Arizona State, he earned a college degree in Finance.

Amazing Baseball Moments

Mike Devereaux joined the Baltimore Orioles in 1989. The Dodgers traded him for another player, Mike Morgan. The best part of his playing career was from 1989 to 1993. His top season was in 1992 with the Orioles. That year, he played in 159 games. He hit 24 home runs and had 107 RBIs. His batting average was .276, which is very good.

Winning the NLCS MVP

In 1995, Devereaux played for the Atlanta Braves. He won the National League Championship Series (NLCS) Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. In Game One, he hit a game-winning RBI in the 11th inning. An RBI means he helped a teammate score a run. In Game Four against the Cincinnati Reds, he hit a three-run home run. The Braves then went on to win the World Series against the Cleveland Indians.

A Controversial Home Run

On July 15, 1989, Mike Devereaux hit a special home run. It was a walk-off home run in a game against the California Angels. This means his home run ended the game and won it for his team. The ball was very close to the foul pole, which marks if a hit is fair or foul. The call was debated, but it stood as a home run.

Mike's Final Season

Mike Devereaux played his last MLB game on April 17, 1998. He finished his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team he started with. Over 12 seasons, he had a .254 batting average.
